asbestos
A mined mineral used in construction prior to the 1980's because of its fire retarding capabilities. Asbestos is classified as a carcinogenic and banned in new construction.

Found as an insulating material on HVAC systems, structural steel, also used in floor and ceiling tiles, plaster, etc.
